Behind the Bag: How Custom Packaging Elevated My First Pop-Up Experience

When you're preparing for a pop-up, especially your first one, every detail counts. From the products you bring to how your booth is styled, every choice plays a role in how customers experience your brand. But one element I didn’t realize would make such a big impact? Packaging.

Let’s talk about why branded packaging matters.

It’s more than just a bag—it’s part of your customer’s experience. It's the last thing they walk away with, and often, the first thing others notice. Whether it’s a reusable tote or a simple paper bag with your logo, it tells people: this is what our brand feels like.

Branded packaging:

  • Builds recognition: When people see your logo consistently, it sticks.
  • Creates conversation: “Where’d you get that?” is a powerful marketing moment.
  • Extends the experience: Good packaging can turn into something people reuse or remember—not just throw away.
  • Reinforces your brand values: Eco-conscious, minimalist, feminine—your packaging reflects all of it.

Before choosing a custom packaging company, here are a few things I recommend considering:

  • Ease of design: Can you customize easily and preview the product?
  • Proofing process: Do they confirm your design before printing?
  • Production & shipping times: Will it arrive in time for your event?
  • Material options: If sustainability matters to you (like it does for Peach Dust Collective), make sure their products align with your values.
  • Customer support: Small businesses need flexibility and clarity—don’t settle for less.

For our first pop-up, I wanted packaging that was intentional. I ended up partnering with RacetopPrint, and I’m so glad I did! Their website made it super easy to design both kraft paper bags and reusable waterproof totes using a built-in design tool and real-time 3D preview. I could see how my ideas would look before committing. That gave me so much confidence.

Once I submitted my design, their team reached out with the digital proof to double-check everything. Production was quick. Shipping was fast. It was the kind of low-stress process every small business owner hopes for.

And when pop-up day came? The difference was IMMEDIATE.

People noticed the packaging. Customers mentioned seeing our “peach bags” around the market. I also saw people using the tote bags for other purchases at the market, which was so validating—not just because it was beautiful and reusable, but because it meant we made something worth keeping.

Beyond aesthetics, the bags carried all our info: logo, site, and social handles. People didn’t have to ask where to find us again. The packaging told our story for us.

This experience reminded me that branded packaging isn’t about being fancy. It’s about being memorable. It’s a way to share your values, your vibe, and your voice—sometimes even without saying a word (hello, fellow introverts!).

Don't get me wrong, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a plain kraft bag and a cute sticker—that can be charming and cost-effective, especially when you’re just starting out. BUT if you're ready to take things a step further, custom packaging can do so much more than hold your products—it can carry your brand.

If you’re planning your own event or pop-up, I highly recommend taking that extra step. Whether you go full custom or just add thoughtful branding to your existing packaging, it’s a move that elevates everything.

Big thanks to RacetopPrint for helping bring my vision to life and giving Peach Dust Collective the amazing pop-up debut it deserved! 🍑✨
